How To Bring Warm To Those in Need During The Holidays

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and The Coca-Cola Company. All opinions are mine alone. #LayerOnLove #CollectiveBias

My abuela used to say: “The more you give, the more you get.” This sweet grandma of mine raised her four boys during the dictatorship in Ecuador. Although it was a difficult time for the country, she made sure to provide for her family and other families who were experiencing more serious challenges than her.

I grew up getting to know my abuela by her love of doing things for others! I remember that whenever I would go to the market with her, she always made sure to buy extra vegetables and fruits because “you never know who would need them” My abuela’s heart was gold and her devotion to give to others has always inspired me.

Our family loved coming to stay with her during the holiday season! I still have vivid memories of the guirnaldas adorning her living room with green and red colors and villancicos playing in the background. I think grandma made the holidays more beautiful and joyful through her kindness and compassion.

Abuela ALWAYS ALWAYS invited a family in need to our Noche Buena. She was so thoughtful that she even made sure to find out which were their favorite desserts and dishes so she can have them to the table. I remember that we would share their favorite dishes, un gran lechón, a delicious arroz navideño and Coca-Cola®. It was a tradition.

Bringing Warm To Those in Need During The Holidays

I have started a new holiday tradition of giving back by joining the “Layer On Love” Holiday Program. For most of us, when the temperatures drop too low for short sleeves and sweatshirts, we solve the problem by tossing on our heavy jackets. But for the nearly 15% of Americans living in poverty, a winter coat is something “extra” that isn’t in the budget. This is why Coca-Cola® is warming the holidays for those in need by helping give warm coats free of charge to anyone in need through the One Warm Coat® charity. Coca-Cola® at Walmart is already getting the snowball rolling by helping to donate 500,000 coats, but you can help them to donate even more. Text “LOVE” to 501501 to donate $5 to One Warm Coat to amplify this donation event.

And while you’re at Walmart treat yourself and your family to a sweet treat for all the good you’re doing by picking up Coca-Cola® products. My personal favorite is Coca-Cola™ Classic, for crisp, cold taste, and the refreshing taste. It’s perfect for meals, on the go or to share. No artificial flavors or preservatives added since 1886.

Now that I am mother myself and living thousands of miles away from my abuela, I am hoping to raise compassionate kids who stand for others. Like my abuela, I want to take advantage of this beautiful time of year and bring the magic of the holiday season by giving back.

Check out these fun quotes about the joy of giving!
