4 Tips to Enjoy a Broadway Musical with Children

Taking my seven-year old daughter to experience a Broadway musical has been on my bucket list for a few months. She is in the perfect age to appreciate the magic of those beautiful shows. Thanks to the invitation of the NC Theatre to see their production of the Broadway Production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, we checked off this wish from our list.

Mary Poppins was not only captivating and funny, but the story was a great opportunity to reinforce important values through the magical experience of a Broadway show. The cast was fabulous. One of our favorite ones was Mrs. Andrews, the mean nanny who would make you laugh with her impeccable performance. The music was breathtaking and easy to relate to in so many different ways.

When NC Blogger Network invited me and my girl to attend this show, I knew I wanted to make it an unforgettable experience for her. If you are thinking to take your children to a Broadway production for the first time, these recommendation may help you to ensure you have a “practically perfect in every way” experience.

Talk to your Child What to Expect

As a first time theatergoer, it was important that my seven-year old understood the theater show etiquette. Also, it is a good idea to get familiar with the exits and bathrooms before the show starts. Please, don’t be afraid to ask a team member for assistance. The lady who assisted us last night noticed that my daughter was small for her seat and surprised us with a booster seat! Her kindness marked the start of a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious evening!

Prepare your Child

Broadway shows like Mary Poppins are usually longer than 2 hours so make sure your child has all her needs met. Because it was a school night, I knew my daughter was going to be exhausted at the time when the show would start. So I made a few arrangements to ensure she was well rested.

Take Some Time to Introduce your Child to the Production

My daughter was not familiar with this beloved Disney character before the show. We didn’t have time to watch the movie but sharing the things that I loved about Mary Poppins helped her to get a nice glimpse of the story.

Have Fun

We arrived earlier to enjoy the beautiful sight of the venue and meet and greet with other members of the blogger network in the VIP lounge. Before going to our seats, we took pictures with the props of the theather and enjoyed ourselves. It was a great bonding time for the both of us.

We can’t wait for the 2016-2017 Season where more amazing shows will be presented including Disney’s Beauty and the Beast! If you are interested to have a “practically perfect” evening know that Mary Poppins is the last production for the NC Theater’s 2016-2016 Season and runs till the end of the month. You can purchase your tickets here.

*I was given complimentary tickets for this show. All the opinions expressed in this post are my own.
