Juan Gabriel was already a Latin American music icon when I was born in the late eighties. As for many Hispanic Millenials, his songs were introduced to us from our parents or even grandparents. For many years JuanGa brought generations together through his music and became part of our childhood memories.

RIP to the man that sang as my mom made dinner, sunday after church, and late at night singing to karaoke. Thank you, #JuanGabriel

The songs of this Mexican icon have been recorded by over 800 artists in many languages. With more than 100 million albums sold, Juan Gabriel had a strong influence in our generation, and here is why:

  1. His music was part of our lives

Juan Gabriel’s music was present in every Spanish-speaking household. In fact, a celebration of Día de las Madres was not complete without “Amor Eterno” and melancholy was not felt without singing one of his songs. As Venezuelan singer Ricardo Montaner tweeted: “Juan Gabriel has been part of all of us.”

  1. Taught Us About Mexico

Over the course of his 45-year career, Juan Gabriel’s songs not only became famous in his natal Mexico, but also in other countries of the world. It was actually through his songs where I learned to appreciate the beauty of mariachi music. His more than 35 albums introduced to millions of people from several generations to Mexican rhythms.

  1. Celebrated love

Juan Gabriel’s popular songs are known by heart. Each of them tells a story that provokes strong feelings and brings up emotions that we may have felt identified, at least once. Here are 6 of his most popular songs.
