Frida Kahlo Inspired Flower Headband and Children Books

Since today is Cinco de Mayo, I decided to highlight Frida Kahlo, a famous Latina artist who was very well known for her self portraits.

Self Portrait/ The Frame/ 1938

Frida’s art provokes strong feelings and sparks discussions about important issues. Although she lived in a different time, I feel Frida’s paintings tells life as it is.

Frida’s life is an extension of her art considered an emblem of Mexican traditions. For most of her life Frida suffered many health problems that isolate her from people. It’s this isolation what influenced her self-portraits. She said: “I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best.”

In her self-portraits Frida wears highly elaborate headpieces. They got the attention from my five-year-old and inspired her to make paper flower headbands. This is what you need to make Frida Kahlo’s inspired paper flowers headband.
