Dr. Seuss

Celebrate Reading with 9 Dr. Seuss’s Books in Spanish

When I was a little girl, Dr. Seuss’s books were not popular in Ecuador. I didn’t know much about them until my husband’s friend gifted us a bilingual copy of The Cat in the Hat/El Gato Ensombrerado (aff link). As I read for first time the fun adventures of Sally and her brother, I never imagined that my kids would love that book so much.

I even have memorized it!

My favorite part of the story is actually the first four lines:

“The sun did not shine.
It was too wet to play.
So we sat in the house
all that cold, cold, wet day”

I can’t tell you how many times I have recited those lines to my kids on our cold, cold, wet days when it is not possible to play outside. It not only makes them laugh but it’s also a reminder that they can still enjoy of a fun day when it is too wet to play outside.

Of course, they always hoped for “The Cat in the Hat” to show up and make a mess in the living room. But since that was impossible, thank goodness, we still made our fun hats and pretend to be the magical cat in the hat.
